Growth Mindset

I’ve seen some of her talks prior to watching the videos attached and I really agree with Carol Dweck’s perspective on mindset. I see myself chasing to consistently maintain a growth mindset. It is apparent in my many aspects of my life such as school, work and fitness goals but sometimes you become too comfortable with the error. I try to keep on adding effort incrementally in different aspects of my life. While at OU I realized how much resources we have around us that we tend to neglect. I was truly discouraged when I realized the many opportunities I had to capitalize on learning experiences that I let go just because I felt comfortable. On the other hand, I am glad this learning experience was in College which allowed me to recover, learn and grow. I will definitely be interested in learning more about growth mindset, I find that it can be used universally. My personal learning goal for this semester is to read more and get in the habit of writing more effectively. I am excited about all my classes since my PE classes include practical topics and also this course seems like fun and good knowledge.

Time Strategies

Time management is essential tool to be successful and efficient at life. I always abide by the principle of “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”. Therefore, I try my best to always plan ahead on a weekly basis. My strategy is to first of all plan a path that I wish to follow on the long run. After my long term goals are set, I break down smaller goals on a weekly and monthly basis. Since I am interested in Fitness it allows me to stay on track and motivated by staying active and following a certain schedule. I like to start my day by working out early in the morning. This allows me to stay sharp and motivated, also gives me a lot of free time in the afternoon to study and run some errands. I try to wake up and sleep early but enough to were I am energetic and function without coffee. In the case I can’t wake up and feel energized I use coffee. Another thing that keeps me abiding by my schedule is removing distraction when I have a certain task to do. I tend to leave my phone purposely in a different room and just focus on completing the task till the end. I enjoyed reading “the important habit of just sharing” by Jory Mackay since I share a lot of the same perspectives especially on habit. I always advice people that tell me they can’t do something to just start to get in the habit of doing it. All our actions in life are based on habits. To b
e successful you need learn how to be consistent with productive habits. This article helped a lot in assuring my own strategy that works for me and I am motivated to keep up to date and achieve my goals!

Reading Options

Aesop for Children is my choice for Week 2 readings. I am not familiar with Roman and Greek fables however I am aware of the rich traditions and history that go along with the fables. I chose this story source to learn more about the Greek and Roman tradition through stories and morals that they portrayed in stories for children. I also acknowledge that language used is heavy and tough to comprehend in some instances so I thought children’s stories would be easier for me to understand. There’s definitely a connection between the themes of the stories and some of the movies but I am more interested in the general knowledge I can gain from this.

The second unit I decided to choose for later this semester is within the Middle eastern culture. Being Middle Eastern I’ve always heard tales about Sindbad and seen a couple of cartoons and movies that included this character. I decided to choose “The voyages of Sindbad”. I already have some prior knowledge to this legend but with the readings I will learn even more about the voyages and what messages are portrayed with this legend. Additionally, I was not aware that there are 7 famous voyages, so yes there’s a lot more I’m looking forward to learn!

Since I was born and lived in England for 4 years I’ve always had interest in learning more of the culture and traditions. English fairy tales are a great way to enhance my knowledge on the English tradition. Also, since I went to an American school since Middle school it would be nice to see the correlation and/or differences in the stories that are taught in both cultures. Additionally, many of these fairy tales were displayed in movies so it would be nice to see the differences and compare.
