Reading Notes: Arabian Nights, Part B

Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp: This story is a big part of my childhood as the story was made into a cartoon movie that became very popular. The story starts when Aladdin was still young and had a simple child’s life. His time spent was mainly outdoors innocently playing with other kids on the streets. A turning point in Aladdin’s life is when he met an evil magician that tried to use him to get his hands on a lamp. This lamp would make the evil magician the strongest magician on the planet. However, Aladdin did not fall for the trap and kept the lamp to himself. The lamp had a genie that would grant any wish at any time. Aladdin realized the strength of the genie and tried his best to utilize the wishes to his benefit. He would ask the genie for silver plates and then sell them to make some money. One day, Aladdin saw a princess and fell in love with her at first sight. Being a poor kid, he knew that he would have to utilize a wish from the genie to get to the princess with the Sultan’s approval. The news reached the magician and he was unhappy the Aladdin is still alive and using the lamp that he initially wanted. So the magician came back to the palace and waited for the right time to take away Aladdin’s belongings. Then Aladdin went for a hunt the magician stole his palace and wife. The Sultan was furious that his daughter was kidnapped so he wanted to execute Aladdin. However, being loved by the people, he was given 40 days to bring back his daughter. Aladdin went on a quest to Africa to retain his wife and lamp from the Evil magician. He succeeded and was able to kill the evil magician and retain his wife and palace. After thinking that they can live happily ever after, the genie warned Aladdin about the magician’s eviler brother wanting to avenge his brother’s death. So Aladdin was prepared and managed to kill the eviler brother and live happily ever after. This story is amazing and is what I hope to focus my project on.
